Hi there! We’re Jackie, Jack, and Emma! We purchased just over 10 acres in the beautiful Monadnock region of New Hampshire in 2016, and are working our land to build a more sustainable life for our growing family.
Currently, we have a large garden that we use to grow as many vegetables as we can, and are in the process of planting a small orchard. We harvest our own firewood, and are working towards being self reliant on ourselves for meat in the near future, through raising our own pastured pork and chicken, as well as hunting and fishing.
Expect videos of our day to day activities, as well as Kubota tractor videos and other reviews and how-to videos.
Periodic sales of organic whole chickens, forest raised pork shares, and more. Email us for availability.

Would We Still Buy A Kubota BX in 2024?
When we were first starting our homestead, we thought the Kubota BX was the best tractor for us and it served us well for 5 years before we upgraded. But knowing what we know now, would we still buy one if we were starting our homestead in 2024?

The Best Chainsaw Carrier for Your Tractor
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Carrying a chainsaw on your tractor is always a balance of finding a place to put it where it wont fall out (like a cab) but also choosing a spot where you wont get cut or don't care about bar oil leaking all over the place (like a bucket). Today, I go over what I think is the best option for carrying a chainsaw on your homestead tractor, and whether thats the SawHaul or the Saw Boss from ITC Q...
Inverted Snowblower Shear Pin Change
Просмотров 7972 месяца назад
Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth having a snowblower for the tractor, or if I should just go back to plowing with a truck. The TYM is awesome, but it's always rough when you bust a shear bolt and don't have any on hand. Other than that though, the Wifo UpShot Inverted snowblower is great. This New Snowblower Is A Drag!
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.5 месяцев назад
On our new TYM 494 tractor, we decided to go with a Wifo Up Shot 68" inverted snowblower. It allows the operator to drive forward while blowing without having a front mount blower that requires removal of the front loader. In this video, I am installing the snowblower on my tractor for the first time. Want to support our farm? Click the link below before you shop on Amazon. It costs you nothing...

Guns On The Homestead - Why, What, and How?
I’ve had my BX23 a week now. So far I love it, it’s a little beast.
0 captures for a while. Watched and our clever squirrels kept reaching in from the rim of the bucket to pull out seeds, so I greased it up a little bit. Average 3 a day drowned now.
I've had one for about a year now, and I love it...
Just went to visit a friend who works at Central NH Trailer and Equipment. Told me about your page! My wife and i are starting a homestead/ farm too and I'm looking at this exact tractor. We're in the lakes region!
“…even the beauty of our garden at full bloom can’t suppress the rage…” I feel you brother, that’s why I’m here. The rage. 😅
This is sweeet is there a knife you'd recommend over this one for the garden now?
It’s still a great knife, but since this video has come out, there are a bunch of other options. This is one of my favorites at the moment. I like the orange handle too as I tend to lose things. amzn.to/4bnmh2n
What a great invention! And supports a small business
That customer service! Wow what a great experience and outcome
Great video! Appreciate it! I am likely gonna buy the Husq 550xp mark 2
What type of fencing is that and the brand please
Something to think about is setting up a range on your property so that it is as convenient as possible to remain proficient with your gear. Also the homesteader has the advantage of "accidental hunting". If you carry a handgun appropriate for the game seasons that are open you are prepared when a target of opportunity arises. Mending fences might provide serendipitous Hasenpfeffer. 😇
I killed 2 this way and didn’t even mean too it was a metal thing my kids filled with water to play in and they came out one day and said there was 2 dead squirrels well ended up being chipmunks I’m not mad cause they are getting inside my house and making holes all in my yard it’s terrible
I got eight in a day in a half, not proud but i have to do something & it's the cheapest way.
I was wondering if you had her in 4WD? If not I think it could have helped you but I may be mistaken. Thanks for the vid!
Was in until the corporate sponsorship, now I can't trust a thing you say. Thanks for being up front.
Hey man, the info still stands. We’ve fed a bunch of hog feeds over the years. Purina doesn’t pay me a dime today, but we’re still feeding Purina this year. So maybe that says something. It’s the most expensive option if run into, but it’s also grown hogs pretty damn well, and can grab a bag from Tractor Supply on my way home from work at 8pm if I need to.
Thanks for the great tips.
The wheels are genius
Thank you for sharing your insight with raising hogs. We have 3acres here in high desert of So Calif with garden, fruit trees, layer chicken, we order our meat chicken couple times a year. Now I want to expand to next level of self sustainable with pigs. Your video really helped. Only question is which breed to start? I hear commercial and heritage breeds..
I did this and the squirrels ate it all.
cool!
I ordered one for my BX today. I just received it, it’s very nice. I can’t wait to install it
Morning Jack, Our ATV club purchased a TYM 574 last year. How is this camera system holding up for you? Do you still like it?
The camera itself is still awesome. The magnet attachment system needs work. I almost lost it after it fell off while I was scooping some dirt and a branch knocked it off into the bucket of dirt I dumped somewhere else. I managed to find the camera because I could see it was on the surface, and I shone light on the pile with a flashlight and when I saw light on the screen, I went to the spot and dug it out.
A friends neighbor caught 52 mice in an old cabin using this method.
Thank you for this. 👍
Where are you located please?
Do u have to use electric fence?
It did not work for us.
Great video. Important information, articulate presentation. Interesting stuff! Thank you!
I'm going to try this. Chipmunks are DESTROYING our yard and garden, it's honestly out of control. I have tried everything on the market to stop them and nothing works. I haven't wanted to end them, but I hit my limit today. You can't step anywhere around our house without finding holes or sinking into the ground because of tunnels. I'm done!
I have a BX23S and a TYM T494 w/ backhoe. They each serve their purpose and I like having both.
Why don’t you leave atleast a few trees to shade the pasture
See...I enjoy companion chickens. Sex links only live about six years. Hoping for a longer lived chicken, I've been getting heritage chicks and raising them.....but so far, no luck on finding a FEMALE. It's getting to be a chore to care for and raise chicks that are going to be in someone else's soup pot. Unless I can buy DIRECTLY from a breeder who knows his breed....I'll stick to sex links. I've raised too many roos. Yes....I do a wing check, a tail check, a comb/spur check......(it's so much easier just to look for balls.) but chickens give you no clue. Lol....I've got chicken poop on my laptop... The chickens were raised with our german shepherd, and they go out, and come in....with him. He's a good boi. (he seems to enjoy having a job) In the past, mine have laid nearly until their deaths. Yes, year two.....sometimes as many as two eggs in 24 hours. That's superproduction and they can't do it for long. The more eggs they lay, the closer they are to death.....so....I've been looking for a hen who only rarely lays eggs.
I’ve had issues with something eating my seedlings. We think it’s a mouse. If conventional traps don’t work I’m trying this.
i feel your pain with a bx. love the bx but definitely not big enough
You failed to address the question posed by the title... I have three roosters in a flock of 12 birds. Having four hens... I ordered 8 hens and received 3 roosters and 5 hens. I only wanted 1 rooster at most... Can I keep two? All three? do I need to add hens?
1 rooster to 9 hens is a pretty standard ratio. We keep one rooster with 30 hens.
This is the hands-down best way to get the conks. First morning there were 8 in 1 bucket. I'm now at 30 total 4 days later. thanks for the idea!
I know how you feel it's hard for me as well when I do that to my babys ( ducks and childrens)
Amazing! Set this up by the front porch yesterday afternoon, checked it the next morning and had 3 chipmunks in the bucket...Wow!
This worked for me! Also managed to scoop up the chippy and re-home him a few miles away. Thanks!
Worked really well. And it would seem you don't even need bait or seeds. Made 4 of these to set up around the property. Thought I'd put them out while I waited on the seed I ordered to arrive. So the chipmunks would get used to them. Went out a week later to fill with sunflower seeds, and three of the four buckets had chipmunks in them. Working great for me . Thanks for the idea.
What does the book on the tractor and loader say lift capacity is?
This worked great! I got 2 chipmunks that were in my planters within 4 hours of setting this up by their burrow
Ty for this info! Literally within the first 10 minutes i got my first chipmunk. If i can grab em before they drown i relocate them. Ive caught 6 rats and 5 munks in one week!!
Any update. Just got pigs. How is the build working. Thank you
It worked awesome all last year.
I've been processing and selling chicken for over 20 years. I use the language which is best for my customers, not the "industry" that wants to institutionalize local food production. The opinion of a vegan is also of no concern to me. Their opinions (dogma) are rarely founded in reality. They rely on emotional and psychological manipulation. Most importantly, they do NOT represent my customer base. Well, almost. When vegans need to take a break from veganism to recharge their health, my chicken seem to be their first choice. Why? because animal husbandry and animal welfare is more important to me than "labels". You do you, just make sure your choices serve the best master(s).
Wow Perfect Thanx
WORKS! 3 days = 4 rats (yikes) and 15 chipmunks. And, we're in the suburbs.
The BX is only if you want to mow, or need a small footprint due to space restrictions. If you need a chore tractor but no mowing and it doesn't have to fit in tight areas, than get a bigger rig.
My situation is similar to yours. Bought a brand new 2680 with cab and loader to replace our aged bx2200. We had 2 horses that lived at a neighbours place. 4 years later, we bought the neighbours place and now raise a small herd of cattle there and our needs evolved. A new tractor was cost prohibitive, and our BX does so many small jobs around the yard, and our local kubota dealer has been great to deal with. Our solution was to keep our 2680 for yard/garden work and small jobs. But, we bought a 1976 ford 4600 with a loader to do the large tasks. Paid cash for it. We do large work like moving round bales, plowing and planting ground to start to grow our own feed. Then great to keep the bx for small things, yet have a large paid for tractor for the farm chores
This guy makes sense... But seriously, the tractor offerings have changed so much over the years. Glad you have a great supportive dealer with TYM.
